Celebrating the Mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®
Commissioned by Supreme Basileus Charletta Wilson-Jacks especially for her Sorors, Service to All Mankind is a Special Edition Gift QuiltTM inspired by her International Program theme — Championing Service, Empowering Sisterhood, Transforming the World.
In 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was founded on the campus of Howard University. As the first and oldest Greek-letter organization of its kind, AKA® revolutionized the landscape of service, sisterhood, and leadership for African-American college-educated women forever. With a mission built on service to all mankind, AKA® is comprised of more than 360,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries.
As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha® for over 30 years, I am honored to introduce this quilt, crafted exclusively for my Sorors.
Service To All Mankind Special Edition Gift QuiltTM
This Gift QuiltTM celebrates the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha® with a soft, usable keepsake. It is a timeless gift for self or others that can be passed down from generation to generation.
The design was inspired by Madame Supreme’s three pillars — Champion Service, Empower Sisterhood, Transform the World — brought to life through three generations of Sorors: the youngest, the Silver Soror®, and the Golden Soror®, each carrying one pillar forward. Each woman looks confidently ahead, carrying a champion spirit into whatever this moment asks of her. I made sure there were embroidered touches everywhere — twenty pearls, roses, ivy, and jewelry — to make this quilt extra special.

Introducing Gift PillowsTM
And because our new Madame Supreme championed the best in me, I am introducing the first collection under Alexis Gift & HomeTM — five beautifully beaded Gift PillowsTM, made just for my Sorors.
Each one is a luxe linen and cotton blend, hand-beaded and embroidered by skilled artisans, bringing remarkable texture and dimension to every double-sided design. Introducing Like the Ivy, 20 Pearls, Pinky Promise, The Silver Soror®, and The Golden Soror®.
They’re daily reminders of sisterhood and love — heirloom pieces meant to be gifted, treasured, and passed down.

A QUILT TO FORTIFY YOUR JOURNEY
So much of who we are as women of African descent has been passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother taught me to quilt the traditional way when I was 21. Ever since, I have been evolving into the textile artist I am today.
Quilts can heal, inspire, comfort, and share generational stories.
I created my line of Gift QuiltsTM to touch more people. They are for those quiet moments when we do the hard work of dreaming, reflecting, healing, deciding, and motivating ourselves. I want to support people through the emotional journeys of life while making it easy to give a truly meaningful gift that warms the body and fortifies the spirit.
A Message From Madame Supreme
Every generation of Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha is called to meet a defining moment in history. Today, our world needs women who lead with the mindset of a champion—grounded in service, strengthened by sisterhood, and committed to creating lasting change. That is the vision behind our International Program theme: Championing Service, Empowering Sisterhood, and Transforming the World.
I commissioned this Special Edition Gift QuiltTM as a lasting reminder of that call. More than a keepsake, it reflects the journey we share across generations and the responsibility each of us has to lead with courage, purpose, and compassion.
May this quilt inspire you to answer the call before us—to Champion Service, Empower Sisterhood, and Transform the World—knowing that our communities, and all mankind, are stronger because Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha choose to lead.

Golden Soror Grandma
My Soror Grandmother, Dorothy Taylor Brown, taught me how to quilt the traditional way when I was 21 and this was our first quilt. It represents the fellowship and love we shared as Sorors. She turned Golden (50 years), the year after I crossed. She was a long-standing, dedicated member of Xi Omega Chapter in Washington DC where she retired as a High School Principal.
I grew up understanding how special the mission, sisterhood and service was to my paternal grandmother who we affectionately called, “Mother Dear.”
Everything was by hand. She showed me how to plan, prepare, wash, cut, embroider, stitch the pieces together, quilt and bind. It took hours, days and months. It was quality time and She Taught Me More Than How To Quilt. It is because of her I add so much meaning to every quilt (Art Quilt or Gift Quilt) I have created since.
I cherish it. This along with my other family heirloom quilts from women on both sides of my family are some of my most prized possessions. If you own an heirloom quilt see my article on Preserving Your Heirloom Quilt to make sure it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
It was such a full circle moment then and a full circle moment now.
I think she would love each design and I’m excited to think about how it can bond other legacy Sorors across generations.
