Louise Truitt Dench, the visionary and Marion Stubbs Thomas who led the charge founded Jill of America, Incorporated in January 1938. Eighty-five years later their mission lives on – nurturing children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
Today Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated boasts 262 chapters, representing more than 50,000 family members making a difference in communities nationwide.
27th National President Kornisha McGill Brown commissioned this Special Edition Gift Quilt to mark 85 years of nurturing future leaders. As a proud JNJ mom this was an honor to develop for my sister moms.
THE BOND Special Edition Gift QuiltTM
Celebrating 85 years of nurturing future leaders, this Gift Quilt is a soft, usable keepsake. It is a timeless gift for self or others that can be passed down from generation to generation.
When considering the design I chose a Madonna to represent all of the bonds we as Jack and Jill moms share. The special bond that we have with each of our children, our shared sisterhood that we have as mothers and of course the connection that each of us has our mission of nurturing future leaders.
The back features the National Emblem and “We are Still Rising” an enduring message from Founding Mother Louise Truitt Dench and inspired by theme of our 85th Anniversary.
I’m proud to share that 10% of the proceeds from this Gift Quilt will go to Jack and Jill of America and the Jack and Jill Foundation.

A QUILT TO FORTIFY YOUR JOURNEY
So much of who we are as women of African descent has been passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother taught me to quilt the traditional way when I was 21. Ever since, I have been evolving into the textile artist I am today.
Quilts can heal, inspire, comfort, and share generational stories.
I created my line of Gift QuiltsTM to touch more people. They are for those quiet moments when we do the hard work of dreaming, reflecting, healing, deciding, and motivating ourselves. I want to support people through the emotional journeys of life while making it easy to give a truly meaningful gift that warms the body and fortifies the spirit.
CONNECTED THROUGH MOTHERHOOD
Growing up as a member of Jack and Jill I personally know the power of this village. I vividly remember memorizing poetry for Black history programs, volunteering and of course the friendships – many of which I still have today. Now as a mom, this connection has come full circle as I wanted to provide my daughter the same experiences in a nurturing environment. As a commission from NP Kornisha and a requested Gift Quilt through Quiltify, I take pride in carefully crafting this celebration of the Jack and Jill experience. We are forever connected through motherhood and our role in nuturing the future.
I want this Gift Quilt to serve as a warming reminder of our tie to the legacy of our founders’ vision, but also the very intimate role we play with all children as our future leaders. So, to the national, area and local leaders, moms, associates, staff and young people of Jack and Jill of America, I personally thank you for this opportunity.

Dear Jack and Jill Mothers,
It is my pleasure to commission this Gift Quilt in honor of our beloved Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated’s 85 years of making a difference in the lives of all children.
As members, we stand on the shoulders of our founders—the late Marion Stubbs Thomas and Louise Truitt Dench—and all the mothers who had the vision, courage, and conceptualization of why Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated was so greatly needed in 1938 and even more now in the present. We are so grateful for their fortitude in establishing Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated in the midst of challenges related to the Great Depression, racism, and social inequities to create an atmosphere of favorable outcomes for African American children. Eighty-five years later, the children still remain the central focus of all that we do within our organization.
