CELEBRATING 95 YEARS OF THE GIRL FRIENDS®
The Girl Friends®, Inc., if not the oldest, is one of the oldest social organizations of African American women in the United States. It was founded in New York City in 1927 by Eunice Shreeves who wanted to intentionally “stay in touch” with her good friends. Over four generations the chain of friendship has spread to 48 chapters, representing 25 states and the District of Columbia. The Girl Friends® is made up of innovative, inspirational, intelligent and uncommon women who are entrepreneurs, CEOs, elected officials, professors, wives and moms – all leaders in their own regard. Most of all they value and cultivate True Friendship in how they support each other and their communities.
38th National President Courtney Moore and the 2023-2024 National Executive Board commissioned this Special Edition Gift QuiltTM️ to mark the organization’s 95 Anniversary and I am honored to deliver this keepsake for the women of The Girl Friends®.

I designed this quilt to showcase the intergenerational connection of Friendship that lives within and across Girl Friends® chapters nationwide. It was important show the joy, support, respect and natural connectivity of true friends. The women are adorned in the organization’s colors of apple and emerald green. The yellow tea roses, representing friendship and joy, also hold special meaning to members.
The back features the values, “Dignity, Service, Graciousness & Conviviality – Since 1927.”

A QUILT TO FORTIFY YOUR JOURNEY
So much of who we are as women of African descent has been passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother taught me to quilt the traditional way when I was 21. Ever since, I have been evolving into the textile artist I am today.
Quilts can heal, inspire, comfort, and share generational stories.
I created my line of Gift QuiltsTM to touch more people. They are for those quiet moments when we do the hard work of dreaming, reflecting, healing, deciding, and motivating ourselves. I want to support people through the emotional journeys of life while making it easy to give a truly meaningful gift that warms the body and fortifies the spirit.
