The design was inspired by the strong spirit shared by Spelman women. Each compelling in her own right but bound by the shared experience of being nurtured on the same hallowed ground. The front features a multigenerational spectrum of dynamic Black women, each adorned in the unique confidence that is cultivated within those who have vowed, “To forever bind thy hearts to thine.” Which is embroidered across the bottom. I made sure there were embroidered touches everywhere—words, clothing, skin, hair and jewelry—to make this quilt extra special. The back features the logo and motto to remind you that a choice to attend Spelman is A Choice to Change the World.

A QUILT TO FORTIFY YOUR JOURNEY
So much of who we are as women of African descent has been passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother taught me to quilt the traditional way when I was 21. Ever since, I have been evolving into the textile artist I am today.
Quilts can heal, inspire, comfort, and share generational stories.
I created my line of Gift QuiltsTM to touch more people. They are for those quiet moments when we do the hard work of dreaming, reflecting, healing, deciding, and motivating ourselves. I want to support people through the emotional journeys of life while making it easy to give a truly meaningful gift that warms the body and fortifies the spirit.
TO THOSE WHO CARRY SPELMAN COLLEGE IN THEIR HEART
As a graduate of Fisk University, I know the undeniable power of an HBCU experience. And I have observed for decades the unique bond Spelman graduates share. As one of my most requested Gift Quilts through Quiltify, I take pride in carefully crafting this celebration of the Spelman experience. One that is not confined to an institution for four years but rather a sisterhood with benefits that last a lifetime.
A Choice to Change the World is a bold, inspiring motto, and I am privileged to celebrate it on this keepsake quilt. So, to the leaders, faculty, administration, staff, students, and alumnae of Spelman College, I personally thank you for such an amazing opportunity.
GENERATIONS – A Special Time Together on Campus
It was a cool, damp morning on campus when we hung this Special Edition on a makeshift clothesline tied to the two beautiful trees in front of Sisters Chapel. Seven Spelman women, representing seven different decades (spanning C’61 – C’26), came together to help me honor the past and celebrate the future of Spelman sisterhood.
Most of the ladies did not know each other, but the bond was instantly granted and personified. It was beautiful to watch the connections unfold as they shared experiences, discussing what has changed and what has remained the same. That same gracious connection was shared with me as a Black woman—also a sister—which I was grateful for.
It was this interaction and others I have experienced with Spelman women that inspired the name of this Special Edition.
I want this Gift Quilt to serve as a warming reminder of the glorious history and undeniable dynamism the women of Spelman share and the comfort that comes from that Timeless Sisterhood.
